"On a Hilltop with Jesus"
Matthew 17:1-9, NIV
Rev. John Donaldson
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
-Matthew 17:5, NKJV
-Matthew 17:5, NKJV
A long-held belief of the church is that the heart of the Bible is the four gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It is there that we read of the life, teaching, miracles, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ -- Son of God, Word made flesh, Lamb of God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords. As important as the other 62 books of the Bible are, the 4 gospels are the crucial books. As the Father said to Peter, James, and John, we need to “Hear Him.” If you think there are conflicts in the Bible, hear Jesus. If you wonder about the nature of God, hear Jesus. If you are seeking a clearer understanding of the will of God, hear Jesus. Christian, disciple of Jesus, hear Jesus. He is the way, the truth, the life.

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sunday, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon word Lencten, which means “spring.” The season is preparation for celebrating Easter. We will begin Lent with an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday night, February 18, at 6 p.m., in the Crossroads Connection Center.
