Members of the Elberton First Methodist Choir, the First Baptist Choir, and other community church choirs have been working together once again to share with the community a Christmas Cantata! This year’s program is titled “Let the Whole World Sing.” The first performance of the wonderful cantata was Sunday night, December 14, at Elberton First Baptist Church. We are blessed to have the encore perforce for a combined worship service this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Hope to see you all for this wonderful celebration of the birth of our Lord.
Blessings, Pastor John

News & Announcements

Christmas Caroling at Magnolia Estates
Do you love to sing Christmas Carols? Join us Tuesday, December 23, for our 11 a.m. chapel service at Magnolia Gardens and help spread Christmas joy as we sing all the favorite carols to the residents.

Thank You!
On behalf of all the staff, we thank our church community for the very generous Christmas bonuses. This is especially nice for the holidays, with family gatherings, when we all could use a little extra. And once again, from all of us, it is an honor and a pleasure to serve God in our community. -Pastor John
Thank you all for helping with our wonderful meal-packing work session with Rise Against Hunger on November 9. We have been informed that the meals we packed are on the way to South Sudan! South Sudan, a landlocked country in northeastern Africa, is home to over 11 million people who are facing some of the most severe levels of hunger in the world. May God bless the people of South Sudan, and may God direct our simple gift of meals to those in the most need.
Join us this Christmas Eve as we go in heart and mind to Bethlehem, sing the wonderful carols again, and hear the good news of the birth of our Lord. We will begin serving Holy Communion at 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary and continue with the Candlelight Service at 6:00 p.m. O come let us adore Him!

In 1959 Bill Gaither graduated from Anderson College, Indiana, with a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in Music. He went to work as an English teacher, pursuing music on the side. In 1963 he was asked to play the piano for a revival meeting in the area that featured the preaching of Dr. Dale Oldham. The meeting went well and afterwards Dr. Oldham asked Bill to write a song that included the words, “He touched me.” Gaither, who would later say that “songs are like whispered answers to questions of the heart”, took the words from Oldham as the theme of his first hit song, “He Touched Me.” This song would later be recorded by the Imperials, Elvis Presley, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and, more recently, Steven Curtis Chapman. Bill Gaither might have been writing about the woman that Jesus made whole in Luke 13:10-17.

Shackled by a heavy burden 'neath a load of guilt and shame, then the hand of Jesus touched me, and now I am no longer the same. He touched me, oh, He touched me, and oh, the joy that floods my soul. Something happened, and now I know, He touched me, and made me whole.

We are looking at the Luke passage this week and the spiritual wholeness that Jesus wants to bring to us all.

Blessings,
Pastor John
