"Resilient Faith"
Matthew 15:21-28
Rev. John Donaldson

Surely one of the strangest encounters that Jesus has in the gospels is his conversation with the Canaanite woman, found at Matthew 15:21-28. Jesus seems uncharacteristically rude. Some people say that this passage does not belong in the Bible, or that Jesus was having a bad day, or that Jesus was a bigot. But there is more to the story. Jesus, who had just chastised his disciples for their little faith, led them to meet someone whom he describes as having “great faith.” What do you think Jesus wanted his disciples to learn from the Canaanite woman? Join us at 9, or 11, or via the livestream!

Blessings,
Pastor John
Ongoing Repairs
The Fellowship Hall is back open to foot traffic only for people to pass through from the Crossroads Connection Center to the Education Wing. The Fellowship Hall lobby entrance and restrooms are still closed due to ongoing repairs. The elevator entrance will remain open this Sunday for anyone entering the Education Wing from the back parking lot.

Middleton Methodist Church Revival
Sunday Night is the kickoff for the annual revival at Middleton Methodist Church. Rev. Gary Purvis will be preaching, and our own Brenda Cann will be playing the piano. The Covered Dish supper is at 5:30 pm, and the worship service is at 7 pm. In support of our neighbor Methodists, we will not be having the Chapel service at EFMC; instead, everyone is encouraged to attend the Middleton Revival.
We are pleased to have Michael Stanfield of Gideons International share for a few minutes on Sunday morning on the Gideon ministry. Mr. Stanfield is from the Oglethorpe Camp and a former area director for GA District 9. As in previous years, should you choose to support the Gideons, make the check out to EFMC, but mark “Gideons” in the memo section of your check or on your offering envelope. The church will collect the donations and send in one check.
There will be a Women’s Retreat on Saturday, Sept 19th 10 am to 2 pm at Woodlawn Global Methodist Church (378 Brad Dixon Rd, Elberton). This is a Conference-Wide Retreat, and the featured speaker is the Rev. Judy Stevenson, co-Pastor at Macland Community Church, a Global Methodist Church in the West Cobb area of metro Atlanta. The event is free, with brunch included, but attendees are asked to register at woodlawngmc.com.
Our mission emphasis for August and September will be to bring unisex jogging-type pants, undies, and wipes for pre-k and primary school. Donation bins are located in the entrances.
