"Don't Pull the Weeds”
Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
Rev. John Donaldson

When we think of Jesus, we mostly think of him as our savior. He embraced humanity and bore our sins on the cross. Thank you, Lord! But, in addition to being our savior, Jesus is also our teacher. He actually cares about how we think and what we understand to be true. And one of the main ways that Jesus taught was through parables. These analogies helped his disciples to visualize, understand, and remember Jesus’ messages. So, when we look at a parable, as we will be doing Sunday, (Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43) ask yourself, what is Jesus teaching me through this story? How can I embrace this truth, and live it?

Blessings,
Pastor John
Cool is Costly
We are thankful to all who have contributed to the church's Capital Projects Fund. We recently had an unexpected expense and had to replace one of the Sanctuary air-conditioning units at a cost of $15,340! As expensive as this was, it was nice that we already had funds set aside for this purpose. So, if you are able to occasionally give beyond your normal tithe, think about giving to the church's Capital Projects Fund. We never know when it will be needed! Thank you again!
We want to hear what God is doing in our church family! If you have a praise report and would like to share, send it to the church office using the email office@elbertonfmc.com. Your praises could encourage someone else!
Mark your calendars, on August 3 from 12-5 pm, the Red Cross will be back at EFMC for the fall Blood Drive. According to the Red Cross, “One donation may help save up to three lives.” Some of you have saved whole villages! You can schedule an appointment online at www.redcrossblood.org or contact Autumn Wright. Thank you in advance for being willing to help.
Have you missed eating supper with your church family? The good news is that when kids are back in school, the Fellowship Meals are back! On Wednesday, August 5th, at 5:30 pm, we will have our First Wednesday Fellowship Meal. The August menu is spaghetti with meatballs, salad, garlic bread, and cake for dessert. Please note that the cost has changed slightly. It is still free for children 3 and under, still $5 for children 10 and under, and still $10 for Adults, but we now have a new “Family Rate”, just $25 to cover the whole household. We hope to encourage our church family to come and enjoy food and fellowship together!
