“Jews in Babylon"
Jeremiah 29:4-7, NIV

Rev. John Donaldson

I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July and that those going on vacation this coming week will have an enjoyable and meaningful time. If you are looking for something patriotic to watch over the holiday, the historical movie “A Great Awakening” is really good. The film follows the friendship between George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin, and Whitefield's impact during the Great Awakening religious movement. It also touches on the early stages of the Methodist movement. As the film shows, Whitefield helped to bring America together prior to the revolution, and through his influence on Franklin, he helped shape the course of American history. Our scripture this week is Jeremiah 29:4-7, where Jeremiah passes on God’s instructions to the Jews who are captives in Babylon. Jeremiah says, “seek the peace and prosperity of the land”. (Jesus might have used the words, be salt and light in this land.) The question is, how can we today work for good in our land?

Blessings,
Pastor John
