"How to Love Like Jesus?"
John 15:5, 8-13, 17, NIV
Rev. John Donaldson
In 1907, at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, there was a special service organized by a Methodist laywoman, Anna Jarvis, to honor her mother, who had recently passed, and to honor all the mothers of the church. The service was well received, and the following year, Anna Jarvis was advocating that all mothers be honored on the second Sunday in May. In 1912, the Methodist Episcopal Church recognized the day and raised it to the national agenda. Two years later, in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day! Thank you, Anna Jarvis, for following through on your God-given inspiration. Happy Mother’s Day!
Blessings,
Pastor John

Rise Against Hunger
Mark your calendars: on November 15, 2026, Elberton First Methodist will once again participate in a meal-packing event with Rise Against Hunger! Last year, we packed around 2,000 food bags providing meals to an estimated 10,000 people! Our packed meals were included in a delivery of meals to those in need in South Sudan. It is wonderful that we in Elberton, GA, can help provide for the hungry men, women, and children in one of the poorest countries on earth. Food supplies, packing materials, and our part of the shipping costs are $4,100, and our special Mother’s Day offering today will help cover the cost of this ministry.
Graduate Recognition Sunday
On May 17th, we will be recognizing our High School and College graduates. If you have a child graduating from high school or college, please visit our website and fill out the form. The deadline to submit information is Sunday, May 10.

May 24 Combined Service In Crossroads
Our second-quarter “5th” Sunday combined worship service will be on Sunday, May 24, at 10 a.m. in the Crossroads Connection Center. Special guest musician will be Dawson Scarborough, a local country favorite. Following the service, we will have a “pot luck” lunch in the Fellowship Hall. If you want to participate in the lunch, just bring a dish to share! This is also Pentecost Sunday, so wear something red symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit.
