"Who Needs Forgiveness?"
Luke 7:36-8:3, NIV
Pastor John Donaldson
In August of 1905 the Daily News (An English newspaper founded by Charles Dickens) asked this age old question, “What is wrong with the world?” In response, G.K. Chesterton, who held Dickens in high regard, submitted a short essay, which included this powerful section:
“In one sense, and that the eternal sense, the thing is plain. The answer to the question, “What is Wrong?” is, or should be, “I am wrong.”
Chesterton goes on to say that “original sin belongs to all ages” and to make progress we need to be willing to first acknowledge our own lostness. It makes me wonder, how much do we acknowledge our own need for God’s forgiveness? In his letter to the churches, the Apostle John emphasized that not only do we all need grace, but that grace can be found by all.
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9, NIV)
Join us for worship this Sunday as we consider a story of Jesus’ grace, from Luke 7:36 – 8:3.
Blessings,
Pastor John
