John 16:12-15, NLT
Pastor John Donaldson
June 15 will be an exciting day at Elberton First Methodist. We are celebrating our very successful 2025 VBS! It is also Father’s Day, and we will have special gifts to acknowledge and honor the Father’s in the church. Thank you Dads! And this is Trinity Sunday, so we will be thinking about the Tri-Unity of God, and what that means to us. It will be a wonderful Sunday! All are welcome!

Annual Conference Report
Our North GA Global Methodist Annual Conference met at Greensboro First Methodist from June 5-7. The Conference emphasized worship and learning opportunities, and started Friday night with Workshops, followed by a Prayer Service led by John Moore. In the business sessions on Friday, we celebrated that we now have 142 churches in North GA, (including Hartwell Methodist) and we are continuing to grow. The 2026 Budget of $705,225 was approved. To make budget, there was an increase in what is asked from local churches, from 1% to 1 ½ %, an increase of about $195 a month for EFMC. This is the first full year budget for our Conference and is more complete than previous budgets. Conference boundaries were redrawn, and we went from 11 to 20 Districts. Elbert, Franklin, and Hart Counties now make up District 17, and with John Moore continuing to provide leadership – his new title is Connectional Community Elder. In the Ordination Service on Saturday Conference Superintendent Andy Postell preached, and Bishop John Pena Auta ordained 4 as Deacons and 12 as Elders. In the coming conference year, 3 from our church will be serving on conference committees – John Donaldson and Ray Cann will be Finance, and Jake Harper will be on Nominations. The Next Annual Conference is June 4-6, 2026, at Norcross First Methodist.
The Scewtape Letters
The Standing Stones Sunday School Class is beginning a study on CS Lewis’ book, The Screwtape Letters. This 1942 novel, which Lewis dedicated to his friend J. R. R. Tolkien, is a satirical look at Christianity through letters of advice from a senior devil, Screwtape, to a junior tempter named Wormwood. This has been a tremendously popular book, now printed in 41 editions and has sold over half a million copies. This is both a humorous and deeply profound look at our ongoing spiritual battle that is very impactful and will make you think! Please join us – books will be available for free and the reading is short and easy.
Join or Die
The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce has invited the community to a screening and discussion of the movie “Join or Die” on Sunday, June 22 at 2pm at the Elbert Theatre. The film is a documentary about the health value of participating in local gathering – clubs, churches, etc. Following the film there will be a time of community discussion. Tickets may be purchased at the chamber website: https://www.elbertchamber.com/event, and are $5 for Chamber members and $7 for non-members.

2 Peter
Is that the truth? Are you sure about that? Truth is an alien concept to many people nowadays. Truth is only comfortable when it's not inconvenient. Truth is whatever I want it to be. I can change what is true to meet the changing needs of society, and I can even change the truth to meet the changing needs of the church.
Uhh... Peter begs to differ.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Ron
